Abdominoplasty and reduction of excess belly fat

Abdominal abdominoplasty is a complex surgical procedure, the task of which is to remove excess skin and fatty tissue from the mesogastrium and lower abdomen area. Abdominoplasty is the reason for a significant improvement in the appearance of this part of the body.

It is an excellent proposition for people with flabby abdominal integuments, which are most often associated with rapid weight loss, pregnancy, etc. The surgery itself does not last long – about 3 hours, and skin cuts are made horizontally in the lower abdomen so that they can be easily hidden.

Patients only need to remember to put on a pressure belt for about 2 months after the procedure. However, you also need to avoid intense physical exertion for a month. For people who would like to gain a beautiful, flat and firm stomach, the OT.CO Clinic has prepared a special treatment offer.

A tummy tuck is a proposal for people who struggle with sagging skin around the abdomen. With time and after pregnancy, the skin, along with the subcutaneous fat, tends to move to the lower abdomen. As a result of pregnancy, unsightly stretch marks also appear on the skin of the abdomen. Only surgical procedures – including abdominoplasty – can completely eliminate imperfections. However, it is worth remembering that the skin is removed only to a certain extent, so not all visible stretch marks can be cut out. Abdominoplasty is not a procedure that will help you lose weight. It is also not a substitute for regular exercise and diet. Surgical activities are only possible after shedding unnecessary kilograms and gaining a stable weight. Only people in general good health or with controlled chronic disease may be admitted to surgery. It is also a solution for patients with a stabilized body weight and BMI, who have realistic requirements regarding their appearance after surgery, as well as for non-smokers.

The best candidates for the procedure are both men and women with a good figure who suffer from excess body fat in the sagging skin of the abdomen, which cannot be reduced through exercise and diet. Also, elderly people with a significant decrease in the elasticity of the abdominal skin and its hanging below the navel may be qualified for the procedure. Moreover, if you care about:

  • a beautiful figure and flat belly,
  • emphasizing the effects of weight loss,
  • reduction of excess skin on the abdomen,

in addition, if you want to improve your self-esteem, abdominoplasty will be the best solution for you.

The procedure

Before the surgery, the patient is referred for a medical consultation, during which the surgeon will assess his health, determine the excess fatty tissue in the abdominal area, and test the elasticity of the skin. However, patients must remember to provide the specialist with all information about whether they smoke tobacco products or take any medications or vitamins. The doctor will order detailed blood tests and vaccinations before the procedure – blood group, blood count with smear, CRP, coagulation parameters, electrolytes, urea, creatinine, glucose level, urinalysis, ECG, chest X-ray, HBs antigen, or anti- HCV. Before the procedure, antiplatelet drugs should be discontinued at least 21 days in advance. Abdominal plastic surgery is also not performed while taking anti-inflammatory drugs and certain herbal medicines that may increase the risk of bleeding during surgery.

The surgeon will discuss with the patient the results that can be obtained, the limitations after the surgery, and the possible risks that the surgery may entail. During the consultation, the doctor also presents the type of anaesthesia that will be used during the procedure and will precisely define the costs of the surgery.

The procedure takes about 2 – 4 hours and is performed under general anaesthesia. Before anaesthesia is administered, the anaesthesiologist activates special devices that constantly monitor the patient’s condition. It is usually endotracheal intubation which consists in inserting an endotracheal tube through the oral cavity into the trachea. After the surgery is completed, the anaesthesiologist stops administering general anaesthesia.

During the procedure, the surgeon makes a horizontal incision in the lower abdomen. The length and shape of the cut depends on the amount and distribution of the flaccid skin. When the skin is lifted, the abdominal muscles are exposed. Then the skin of the abdomen is pulled from above to the incision in the lower abdomen in such a way that it is properly taut. Excess abdominal tissue is cut off according to the markings.

Before suturing the wound, the surgeon places special drains under the skin to drain the accumulated blood and serous fluid. After the surgery, elastic compression garments are put on to prevent skin swelling.

The effects

The first days after surgery may be associated with abdominal swelling. It can also be accompanied by pain in the abdominal wall and muscle tension. 7 days after the procedure, the patient must also visit a surgeon for a check-up and removal of stitches.

The recovery period usually lasts up to several months. It is recommended to introduce moderate physical activity, which will allow you to recover faster. However, it is not recommended to exercise excessive amounts of exercise, which may disturb the process of wound healing and abdominal plastic surgery. In the first months after the surgery, the abdomen may have a pink colour, which, however, will fade after several weeks.

The result of the treatment is satisfactory, especially in people with weakened and sagging abdominal skin. The result will be better if the patient is additionally supported by a proper diet.

People who fully understand the meaning of the procedure, accept all inconveniences related to its performance and actively engage in rehabilitation, can achieve a satisfactory effect. It usually takes 10-14 days for patients to recover.

If you are looking for an effective way to improve your well-being and reduce sagging, loose abdominal skin – an unsightly souvenir after weight loss or pregnancy, and also want to get rid of complexes, the abdominoplasty procedure will meet your expectations.
