The procedure

Before each treatment, consultation with a doctor is necessary. During that visit, the doctor will perform a Doppler ultrasound of the veins. This will allow the assessment of venous insufficiency and planning the procedure as well as the amount of the agent administered during the procedure.

In addition, a consultation with the doctor will allow to determine the general health of the patient and rule out contraindications. In sclerotherapy, these include pregnancy and breastfeeding, venous thrombosis, current systemic disease, and prolonged immobilization.

Before sclerotherapy, local medications should not be used within the performed procedure. The procedure itself involves introducing a solution with a sclerosing agent, which contracts and closes the vein. This is done through the use of a needle and syringe. With their help, the doctor introduces the drug into the veins. The number of punctures depends on the extent of the varicose veins. The procedure is performed lying down and lasts from 15 to 45 minutes, depending on whether it is performed on one or both limbs.

A special tourniquet is placed on the leg immediately after the procedure. It ensures the correct distribution of the drug and prevents it from reaching healthy venous vessels. After the treatment, you should avoid exposure to the sun, high temperatures, hot baths and prolonged standing and sitting for about 4 weeks.

The effects

The main effects of the treatment include the restoration of proper blood circulation by closing the widened veins and excluding them from the system. The inefficient veins are less visible because they are no longer filled with blood. As a result, the characteristic red, burgundy and purple changes positively, affecting their appearance to disappear from the legs. The effects of the treatment are therefore both therapeutic and aesthetic.

If it was possible to close all abnormally functioning vessels during the procedure, the procedure is performed once. Otherwise, you can decide to repeat it to completely eliminate varicose or spider veins.

The first effects are usually visible about 2 weeks after the treatment. Varicose and spider veins become less visible. Full effects in the form of smooth skin and total remission of varicose veins will be visible after a few weeks. The larger the obstructed vein, the longer it will be necessary to wait for the result and the complete closure of the vein lumen.

If you have visible varicose veins and spider veins and you want to get rid of them, regaining the smooth skin of your legs, then the sclerotherapy treatment will be perfect!
